Candy Adair

Resident of Bay Area

Passed away at the age of 62 on October 19, 2009.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years Bruce Adair, and children Christine and Brent.

Born at Samuel Merritt Hospital in Oakland in 1947 to Jack and Ramona Hockaday, she was a life long Oakland resident, attending Bella Vista Elementary, McChesney Junior High, Oakland High and Laney College. Candy was proud to call herself a baby boomer and identified herself with the "summer of love" and The Beatles.

She believed in the power of education and was very active in her childrens' education, volunteering countless hours at Corpus Christi School in Piedmont where both Brent and Christine attended. She taught at St. Elizabeth's, St. Jarlath's and Language Associates, a true testament to her gifts of patience, compassion and commitment to youth. Her desire to help children led her to foster parenting in the 1970's.

She was involved in animal rescue organizations and was an active supporter of the East Bay SPCA volunteering to foster small kittens prior to adoption. She enjoyed refinishing antiques, reading and gardening. More recently she spent time scrapbooking and tracking family genealogy.

Her husband and children will remember Candy as a truly loving, compassionate, and generous wife and mother with a winning smile and an unforgettable laugh. We miss you Mom and we thank you for all that you gave to us during your life! Your free spirit and joy of life will be remembered with love. May you rest in peace.
